Aldwich Theatre
Franklite takes centre stage
Franklite Creative Lighting has supplied a number of bespoke fittings to the Aldwych Theatre, one of London’s oldest theatres.
A selection of custom built fittings have been installed as part of a refurbishment project along the theatre’s corridors, in the bar areas, boxes and auditorium. Each of the fittings were selected to augment the interior design of the theatre, while at the same time adding to the ambience of the individual areas.
Built in 1905 by Seymour Hicks, the interior of the theatre was designed in a Georgian style with an abundance of crimson, cream and gold. Over the years the decor has remained largely unchanged so it was important to select fittings that would compliment the distinctive style of the theatre.
Custom built two and three lamp wall fittings and three lamp hanging pendants were developed in conjunction with Franklite to compliment the decor and provide soft illumination within the theatre. Two lamp polished brass wall fittings installed within a gold leaf frame provide illumination in the bar areas, while three light pendants with matt glass cone style shades create a warm atmosphere in the theatre’s corridors. A combination of three and two lamp wall fittings provide the finishing touches to the dramatic feel of the vast auditorium. Each fitting plays a leading role in the creation of both the interior scheme and lighting ambience of the theatre.
