Shade Lighting

With lighting in your home or your business you can do wonders with the right style of lighting. Naturally you need to consider the practical aspects of illuminating a room, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on the aesthetics. And one of the greatest ways to light a room is with a central ceiling light fixture. These come in various styles and designs, but one of the tried and tested variations is ceiling lights with lamps shades and at Franklite, we have plenty to choose from.

Shapes of Shades

At Franklite, we have lots of different shapes, colours and styles of lamp shades for ceiling lights available, but with ceiling lampshades, the most common shapes are conical or cylindrical and are often termed as drum, empire, bell and coolie.

Drum styles, such as the Abstract 460mm Flush offer greater illumination, ideal for larger areas such as living room lights. Whereas narrower styles, like the Abstract Pendant and Shade Small or the Vivace range, give a more direct and intimate lighting effect, perfect for dining room lights or bedroom lighting where you want a softer diffusion of light.

Another popular choice with modern light shades is the empire or coolie style, which is a conical shape that is narrower at the top and wider at the bottom. These styles, like the Candle Shade Silver/Black String allow a wider illumination effect and an attractive design too, particularly in different colours.

Of course, there are a number of more unconventional shapes available with ceiling light shades that incorporate modern materials and design styles, such as the Marquesa 8 Light, which uses an oval sphere made from glass to reflect the light with a pretty effect. Another fabulous example of a modern ceiling lampshade is the Carillon 9 Light Pendant which has a drum shape created using glass rods.

Choosing the Right Ceiling Light Shade

When it comes to choosing the right style of ceiling light shade to suit your purposes you should always consider where the light is going to be positioned. Ceiling light shades work brilliantly as living room lights and bedroom lights, where you may want to create a more ambient effect. In this instance you can use smaller, coloured shades for a softer glow, like the Woburn Pendant in Red.

Although, if you’re having it as a standalone light for an entire room then opting for larger lampshade in a lighter colour will ensure more light is emitted throughout the area. Alternatively, why not hang ceiling light shades in multiples, which would allow you to choose a smaller style without sacrificing on illumination.

At Franklite, you’ll find plenty of choice for ceiling light shades to give you all the inspiration and illumination you need.
